The name Manny Norté has become synonymous with the all that's good in urban party-going… Manny's house was alive with a vibrant fusion of Motown, African Hi-life, Calypso and pop. His parents were massive music fans and the young Manny and had no choice but to allow music to become a major part of his life. In later years, it was listening to current boogie, soul, RnB, Hip-Hop and pop that made him late for school!

In 1991 Manny started out on a musical career - as a dancer. During this time he constantly observed DJs to see what made the party hype, the energy high and the people shock out, and realised he knew exactly what tunes the crowd responded to. It was then he decided to start learning the art of turntablism… (This is when Manny became a problem child, in a Click suit and Bally Boots!). Manny struck out on the party scene during the warehouse era when he used to go clubbing with his elder cousins and harass the DJs.

In 1994, he officially started his professional DJ life as a warm-up for the now legendary club night 'Rotation', and quickly became a resident DJ. To date, he has DJ-ed for the Fugees, Sisqo, Mobb Deep, Donnell Jones, Pharoahe Monch, Sunshine Anderson and Wyclef Jean. He's also one of the few DJs who can also MC and dance! If this weren't enough, Manny Norté has also moved into production and worked with Total, Tony Touch and Ginuwine.

You can catch his show on BBC 1XTRA every Saturday from 6.00am - 9-00.am
